Description
A feast for the eyes and the palate!
Our latest Food Tour takes us to stunning Sorrento, by the Bay of Naples, on the Amalfi Coast. Together, let’s explore the alleys and eateries, posh shops and rocky shores that give the area a vibrant and exciting ambience.
As a visitor to the Coast, you’ll be pleased with the convenience of meeting our knowledgeable English-speaking guide for your tour. Start off in Piazza Tasso, the main square of Sorrento. It was named for the poet Torquato Tasso, and is the town’s social hub. We’ll wander leisurely toward the Via San Cesareo, a bustling marketplace of colorful sights, music, food and fun.
Seasonal fruits and vegetables, lemon scented gifts, luxury apparel and accessories will delight you. Restaurants and pubs line the narrow cobbled avenue. Pop into one for a refreshing Limoncello, the signature drink of the region. Perhaps a strolling musician will serenade us as we walk to a charming trattoria for some seasonal appetizers of fresh cheese and salumi (tasty cold meats).
We’ll admire spectacular scenery as we make our way down to the Marina Grande on the Amalfi Coast. Sofia Loren made a number of movies in this charming fishing port with its rugged shore and bustling pier. Enjoy a unique selection of merchandise in the shops before dining on classic pasta dishes like Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. An array of locally crafted wines will complement our meal as we feast in view of the magnificent Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius.
Coffee and gelato will round out our culinary exploration. We’ll visit the best ice cream parlor in town to learn how early Romans enjoyed the dairy treat, and how it can be made at home today.
